Interior photoshoot for Lifesport

There are two types of clients in the world. The first is the one that will give me a list of shots they require and then there are those that will pay me all day to "do my thing". I prefer the second type.

Client: Livesport.eu

Architect: Studio Reaktor

This job was exactly the latter. Livesport hired me to photograph their new offices. To my surprise on the day of the shoot, the architects and client were present and ready to shoot before we arrived. The architects at Reaktor Studio had lots of ideas. Sometimes it's a problem when ideas cancel each other out because the result can look like a giant "mess". In this case, everything went smoothly, the creative decision was quick and to the point.

Some clients prefer the option of paying for a single photo rather than a full day shoot, which is more expensive on paper. But when we're on location and I know how many photos have been arranged to be shot, I'm limited. The story is better told when you have room to create, at least for me it is. Sometimes clients don't want to pay anything extra and sometimes it's all about the result and the price doesn't matter that much. Here's an example. When I sent the bid for this project I studied the available photos and information and thought "What am I going to do there all day? That's like 4 hours." And how wrong I was!

In the end, the shoot took us 8 hours. I didn't know what to shoot first. So many angles, each telling a different story. For me it was a change from the limited view where I only have a few angles that the client wants. And I have to say I really enjoyed this project.

And guess what! In summary, the result is much cheaper thanks to the number of photos we took in those 8 hours. Because it's spread out in the price.

And guess what! In summary, the result is much cheaper thanks to the number of photos we took in those 8 hours. Because it's spread out in the price. The conclusion is clear. If you are an architect or a client, go for a full day shoot and make the most of the space. Let the photographer go wild and provide the story behind your project. If you are a photographer, motivate your clients to go for a full day rate, you will spend more time with them, build personal connections and get to know them better, the extra time will also allow you to cover more of the space and develop the story better. But don't forget about licensing. There are multiple parties involved in the project you're shooting, and anyone who wants to use the photos must obtain usage rights. The photos have value to everyone because they're intended to win more contracts.

Big thanks to Livesport for their trust and to the architects Jakub and Honza from Reaktor studio.
